KFB strengthen relationship with Affymetrix – acquire GeneTitanTM instrument

As one of the first European microarray facilities, KFB offers microarray analysis on the Affymetrix GeneTitanTM instrument. The GeneTitanTM is a fully integrated, high-throughput instrument for processing PEG Array Plates, the newest generation of Affymetrix GeneChip® microarrays. It combines a hybridization oven, fluidics processing, and a state-of-the art scanning device into a single bench-top instrument.

Currently, the GeneTitanTM platform supports human, mouse and rat 3’ genome expression arrays, as well as human, mouse and rat Gene 1.1 ST arrays. Over time, more and more array types will become available on the new format. Thus, the decision to acquire the instrument is of high strategic importance, and underscores KFB’s effort to continually provide cutting-edge tools and technologies to the local research community and beyond.
The automation of array processing from target hybridization to data generation means that data will be highly reproducible. Samples can be processed in 16-, 24- and 96 well plate formats, thus accommodating both medium and high throughput projects. These improvements will be accompanied by a significant drop of reagent prices, making the use of Affymetrix technology affordable for almost any laboratory.
The acquisition of the GeneTitanTM is a crucial step for maximizing the productivity of the KFB service facility. The GeneTitanTM is the ideal system to meet clients' needs: High-quality data, competitive prices, and fast turn around times.

  • November 2009. Improved Protocols for small sample Expression Analysis established.

KFB now offer a new protocol for Affymetrix Expression Analysis of samples with limited amounts of starting RNA. Using the Nugen family of kits (link), 1 - 5 ng of total RNA are sufficient to generate enough labelled products for GeneChip® hybridization, corresponding to a 50fold increase in sensitivity compared to the current standard protocol. In contrast to previous small sample methods, the new protocol requires no additional amplification step. Therefore, high quality data can be obtained from limited amounts of sample, without the danger of introducing amplification bias. Services & Products - Affymetrix GeneChips®
